The best part of my job is meeting great people with amazing ideas – and I get to do it every day. But, I’ve seen a worrying pattern in the way business people think. It looks like nobody trusts marketing and digital agencies anymore. Trust is dead in the digital age… but why?

My first month at Insightful UX has been an absolute rollercoaster of an experience. I’ve worked hard to build a strong pipeline of projects, and I’ve been networking everywhere I can. It’s been a busy time for sure; the 5AM starts and midnight finishes aren’t easy, but it’s all worth it.

The worrying trend for businesses and digital agencies

Having spoken to so many people over the last few weeks, I’ve noticed a trend. Everyone knows that they need to be doing more marketing or updating their website… but they’re not acting on it.

Everyone’s got a gripe with their website – either it’s hard to use or it’s not making sales like it should be. There are thousands of digital agencies in the world who say they can fix these issues, so why aren’t businesses jumping on the opportunity to fix it and grow more?

There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution

I’ve found that when businesses speak to digital agencies, they feel like they’re not getting a genuine solution to their problem – they’re just being sold to. Business owners are switched on to this; most of them are great sales people themselves. I know that I go on the defensive when I feel like someone’s selling to me.

A wrapped package presented to you by a pair of hands

The thing is this: answers aren’t found in a wrapped-up package deal. Agencies could offer you a complete ‘solution’ – web design, SEO, PPC, social media, etc. – and there’s nothing wrong with that. These are all useful tools in the marketplace.

But, each business is unique with all kinds of different clients. As such, the tool your business needs may not be the one an agency offers.

What works for your business?

Working out the formula of what your business needs is a science. It needs a combination of:

  • A statistical analyst;
  • Understanding where your business is financially;
  • Knowing what your customers want; and
  • Being able to put that together to formulate a plan.

How often does an agency offer you that? It’s easier said than done.

We’re putting your business first

The reason I have been able to have a such a successful first month is because our business model resonates with so many people. We are completely independent, we don’t want to do agency work – there’s enough out there already. We just want to build the bridge of trust back.

We review a business’s digital and marketing channels, we take the stats, we speak to the customers, we formulate the strategies, so you know what you need to do next.

If you can make changes that are free, do them first! Build that cash flow, then you will have money to put into marketing. But you will know what to start with how much to spend on it and what returns you will see off the back of it.
